Data and privacy
What Clinch reads, why, and what it never asks for. No customer identity, ever.
What Clinch reads
- Order ID, order total, and discount code on any order, to attribute a recovery and calculate the fee on it.
- Product price and Cost per item, read-only, only for products where the margin guard needs to evaluate a discount.
- Product and collection titles, to name the offer and to let you build a targeting list in Settings.
No name, email address, phone number, or physical address is ever requested.
Where it is stored
Data lives in an encrypted Postgres database and travels over HTTPS only. It is retained while the app is installed and removed on uninstall through Shopify's mandatory GDPR webhooks (customers/data_request, customers/redact, shop/redact), the same mechanism every Shopify app is required to support.
Permissions and why each one exists
Clinch requests order read access for attribution, discount write access to create and scope codes, and a read-only inventory permission solely to support the margin guard. Turning the margin guard on for the first time triggers a one-time re-approval of that inventory permission; nothing else changes and no other data becomes accessible.
Language
The Clinch admin is in English. The storefront offer itself detects the shopper's locale and shows in English, Spanish, French, or German automatically, with no configuration needed.

Common questions
Does Clinch see my customers' names or emails?
No. Clinch requests no name, email address, phone number, or physical address. It attributes recoveries using order IDs, order totals, and discount codes only.
Why does Clinch need inventory access?
Only to read the Cost per item field on each product variant, which is what the margin guard needs to know your floor. It is a read-only permission and only matters if you turn the margin guard on.
What happens to my data if I uninstall?
Clinch's mandatory GDPR webhooks erase shop data on uninstall and honor customer data-erasure requests the same way any Shopify app is required to.
Does the offer work in languages other than English?
Yes. The storefront offer localizes to the shopper's browser or shop locale automatically. English, Spanish, French, and German are supported today.
