Best Shopify cart recovery apps (2026)

We make one of these, so a ranking with us at number one would not be worth reading. Instead: what each tool is genuinely best at, and which shoppers it can and cannot reach. Most stores need two of these, not one.

How to read this

Cart recovery is not one category. It is three, split by what the shopper has given you. Choosing well means picking one per layer, not picking a champion.

Layer 1: email and SMS platforms

These reach shoppers who reached checkout and left contact details. Highest intent, smallest group.

Layer 2: on-site recovery

These act while the shopper is still on the site, so they reach the anonymous majority that email structurally cannot.

Layer 3: paid retargeting

Meta and Google retargeting reach shoppers who left, if they remain trackable and you keep paying per impression. Least predictable economics of the three, and increasingly limited by tracking consent.

A sensible default stack

For most Shopify stores: Shopify's native abandoned-checkout emails, plus one email platform matched to your team's capacity, plus one on-site tool for the anonymous majority. Add retargeting only when the first two are working and measured.

The layer most stores leave empty is the on-site one, which is also the largest group by headcount. More on why in our cart abandonment guide.

Common questions

What is the single best cart recovery app for Shopify?

There is no single best, because these tools reach different groups. Email platforms like Klaviyo or Omnisend reach shoppers who left an address. On-site tools reach anonymous visitors before they leave. Most stores get the biggest gain from running one of each rather than picking a winner.

Which is best for a small store just starting out?

Start with Shopify's built-in abandoned checkout emails, which cost nothing, then add one on-site recovery tool with results-based pricing so a slow month costs nothing. Omnisend and Seguno are common first email platforms because they are simpler than Klaviyo.

When is Clinch the wrong choice?

If you need email or SMS, Clinch does none of it. If you want a campaign builder with design control and targeting rules, tools like Justuno or OptiMonk are built for that and Clinch deliberately is not. And if a long review history matters to you, Clinch launched this year.

Try it on your own store

Clinch is free to install. The Free plan costs $0 per month and takes 10% of revenue it actually recovers, so if it recovers nothing you pay nothing.
