Best Shopify exit-intent apps (2026)

We build one of these, so treat this as a checklist rather than a verdict. The five checks below separate tools that recover sales from tools that hand out discounts, whichever one you end up choosing.

The five checks

  1. Does it fire on mobile, really? Classic exit intent watches the cursor, which does not exist on a phone. If the app has not implemented touch signals, it is invisible to most of your traffic and almost all social traffic. A responsive popup is not the same as a mobile trigger.
  2. Is every code unique and single-use? A shared code ends up on coupon sites and gets auto-applied by browser extensions to shoppers who never saw the popup. Unique per-session codes cannot leak, because they stop working after one use.
  3. Does pricing scale with traffic or with results? Pageview-based pricing charges most exactly when conversion is worst. Revenue-based pricing moves with outcomes. Neither is universally right, but the difference is large for high-traffic, low-conversion stores.
  4. Can it prove a recovery? "Influenced revenue" counts any order that touched a campaign and is always flattering. A single-use code appearing on a specific Shopify order is proof. Ask which one the dashboard shows.
  5. Does it protect margin automatically? The minimum set: never fires without an exit signal, never fires on already-discounted products, respects a cart-value floor, and expires codes quickly.

The main options

Where Clinch is the wrong pick

If you want to design the popup yourself, run several campaign types, target by segment, or capture emails, Clinch does none of that and will frustrate you. Those are OptiMonk and Justuno territory. Clinch is also new, with none of the review history the others have earned.

What we would insist on regardless

Whichever tool you choose, insist on unique single-use codes and order-level attribution. Those two decide whether an exit offer protects margin or quietly erodes it, and they are the two most often missing.

Common questions

What should I check before installing an exit-intent app?

Five things: whether it fires on mobile at all, whether codes are unique and single-use, whether pricing scales with traffic or with results, whether it attributes to real order IDs, and whether it can avoid discounting products already on sale.

Do any exit-intent apps work properly on mobile?

Some do and some do not. Mouse-based detection never fires on touch devices, so the app must implement touch signals such as a fast upward scroll, back-gesture interception, or idle detection. Ask specifically, because "works on mobile" sometimes only means the popup is responsive.

Are exit-intent popups bad for SEO or page speed?

They should not be, provided the script loads asynchronously after render and stays idle until a signal fires. On Shopify, apps delivered as theme app extensions load as first-party assets, which is generally better for performance than third-party injected scripts.
