Product and collection targeting

Three modes decide where Clinch is even allowed to make an offer: everywhere, only a list you pick, or everywhere except a list you pick.

The three modes

Building the list

Products and collections are added through Shopify's own picker, the same one used elsewhere in the admin, so searching and selecting feels native. A collection you add stands in for every product inside it, so listing a handful of collections can cover a large catalog without listing products one by one.

How this reaches the discount code

Targeting decides eligibility, not scope, but the two are related. When a product or collection passes targeting, the code Clinch mints is still scoped to that exact product or collection, the same as it would be with targeting off. Targeting only changes where an offer is allowed to appear at all; it does not change how narrowly the resulting code applies.

Common questions

Can I run Clinch on just one collection?

Yes. Switch targeting to "only these", add that collection through the picker, and Clinch will only fire on products inside it. Adding a collection is a shortcut for every product in it, you do not have to list them individually.

What happens on pages outside my list?

Clinch never offers there. In "only these" mode, a product not on your list is treated the same as if Clinch were switched off for that product. In "all except these" mode, it is the listed products that are skipped and everything else runs normally.

Do targeting and margin guard work together?

Yes, as two separate checks. Targeting decides whether Clinch is allowed to run on a product at all. If it passes, the margin guard then separately decides whether the configured discount is safe for that product, or needs to be trimmed or skipped.

Is this enforced only in the storefront, or checked again server-side?

Both. The storefront checks eligibility before showing anything, and the server independently re-checks targeting and margin rules the moment a code is actually minted. A client cannot cause a code to be issued outside your rules.

Try it on your own store

Clinch is free to install. The Free plan costs $0 per month and takes 10% of revenue it actually recovers, so if it recovers nothing you pay nothing.
