Clinch with Klaviyo
This is not a versus. Klaviyo is the best-known email platform on Shopify and Clinch has no email features at all. They work on different halves of the same problem, and the halves barely overlap.
The split, in one line
Klaviyo can only reach a shopper who identified themselves. Clinch works on everyone else, while they are still on the site.
Why the gap exists
An abandoned-cart email requires an email address. That address is usually captured at checkout, which means the shopper had to reach checkout before any recovery flow could exist. Shoppers who browse a product, hesitate, and close the tab never enter that funnel. There is no address, no cart record to email about, and nothing to retarget.
That group is the majority of most stores' traffic. It is not that email recovery is weak; it is that email recovery structurally cannot see them.
| Klaviyo | Clinch | |
|---|---|---|
| Reaches | Shoppers who gave an email | Anonymous shoppers, no address needed |
| When it acts | Minutes to days later | The second before they leave |
| Channel | Email and SMS | On-site, in the storefront |
| Setup effort | Flows, segments, templates | Pick one offer |
| Stores contact data | Yes, that is the point | No personal data at all |
| Pricing basis | Profile count | Revenue recovered |
A practical setup
- Keep every Klaviyo flow as it is. Clinch changes nothing about them and does not touch your checkout.
- Install Clinch on the Free plan. It costs $0 per month and takes 10% only of revenue it recovers, so running both carries no fixed extra cost.
- Avoid stacking two discounts. If your Klaviyo abandoned-cart email already offers a percentage off, set Clinch to free shipping instead. Different incentive, no double discount on one shopper.
- Compare cleanly. Clinch attributes only orders that carried one of its single-use codes, so a Klaviyo-driven sale never shows up as a Clinch recovery, and the reverse is also true.
How to tell whether it is worth keeping
Clinch includes a holdout: it stays silent for a random share of leaving shoppers and records whether they bought regardless. Comparing the two groups tells you whether the on-site offer added sales or just relabeled ones that would have happened. If the lift is small on your store, that is a real answer and you should act on it.

Common questions
Does Clinch replace Klaviyo?
No. Clinch sends no email or SMS and stores no customer contact details. If you use Klaviyo for flows, campaigns, or segmentation, keep it. Clinch works on the visitors Klaviyo never gets an address for.
Will Clinch conflict with my Klaviyo abandoned-cart flow?
They fire at different moments. Clinch acts on-site, in the seconds before a shopper leaves. Klaviyo acts later, by email, after a shopper reached checkout and gave an address. A shopper who buys through a Clinch code never enters the abandoned-cart flow, because there is no abandoned checkout.
Should I discount in both places?
Usually not. If your Klaviyo flow already sends a discount, consider using free shipping in Clinch instead of a percentage, so you are not stacking two discount offers on the same shopper.
Try it on your own store
Clinch is free to install. The Free plan costs $0 per month and takes 10% of revenue it actually recovers, so if it recovers nothing you pay nothing.
