Clinch vs Privy

Privy is an email and SMS marketing platform that also does popups. Clinch is a single-purpose tool that recovers sales from shoppers about to leave. They solve different problems, and the pricing models are the clearest difference.

The short answer

Choose Privy if you want one tool for email marketing, SMS, and list growth, and popups are part of a broader campaign strategy.

Choose Clinch if your goal is narrower: recover orders from shoppers who are leaving right now, without building flows, and pay only when it works.

Pricing model is the real difference

Privy prices on monthly pageviews. That means your bill scales with traffic, including traffic that never had any intention of buying. Ad campaigns, viral posts, and bot-ish traffic all push the number up.

Clinch prices on recovered revenue. The Free plan is $0 per month plus 10% of the discounted total on orders that used a Clinch code. If Clinch recovers nothing in a month, that month costs nothing.

Where Privy is the better choice

If you need to send campaigns, build a subscriber list, or run SMS, Privy does things Clinch simply does not do. Clinch has no sending infrastructure and no plans to add it. A store whose recovery strategy depends on email flows should keep that platform and treat Clinch as an additional surface, not a replacement.

Privy is also far more established, with years of reviews behind it. Clinch launched this year. If a long review history is what makes you comfortable, that is a fair reason to pick Privy.

Where Clinch is different

It only fires when a sale is about to be lost. Clinch reads the exit signal, the cursor leaving on desktop or a fast scroll up on mobile, and never shows an offer to a shopper heading to checkout. That protects margin: buyers who were going to buy pay full price.

Every recovery has a receipt. Each code is single-use and unique to one session, so when an order arrives carrying that code, the match is exact. Your dashboard shows the order ID, not a modeled estimate.

It tries to disprove itself. Clinch can stay silent for a random share of leaving shoppers and track whether they bought anyway, so you can see whether the offer caused the sale or just took credit for it. We have not found another app in this category that does this.

Running both

These are not mutually exclusive. A common setup is Privy or Klaviyo for email and list growth, and Clinch for the anonymous majority who leave without entering an address. See Clinch with Klaviyo for how the two layers divide the work.

Common questions

Is Clinch a replacement for Privy?

Only if you use Privy purely for exit-intent discount popups. If you rely on Privy for email campaigns, SMS, or list growth, Clinch does not replace those. Clinch has no email or SMS features at all.

Which is cheaper, Clinch or Privy?

It depends on your traffic. Privy charges by monthly pageviews, so the bill grows with visitors whether or not they buy. Clinch charges $0 per month on the Free plan and takes 10% only of revenue it actually recovers, so a month with no recoveries costs nothing.

Can I run Clinch and Privy at the same time?

Yes. They fire on different moments, and Clinch never shows an offer on a product that is already discounted. If both tools show popups, set them to different triggers so a shopper does not see two at once.

Try it on your own store

Clinch is free to install. The Free plan costs $0 per month and takes 10% of revenue it actually recovers, so if it recovers nothing you pay nothing.
